Fire Safety

Hearing that a child has perished in a fire whether at home or while at day care is upsetting to all. To know that a fire could have been prevented by taking action to ensure all fire safety regulations were followed is even more disturbing. Get the facts about Fire Safety before it's too late.

Fire Safety Tips

* Install fire and smoke detectors as recommended by your local fire department.
* Test your detectors on a monthly basis to ensure that batteries are still working. Remember to replace the batteries every year. Choose a date that is easy to remember for future reference such as your birthday or Daylight Savings Time.
* Install and maintain enough A-B-C Type fire extinguishers to be in accordance with insurance requirements and fire department recommendations. Have instructions for their use posted on or near the extinguishers.
* Educate yourself and your employees on how to use fire extinguishers.
* Do not allow useless items to accumulate especially combustibles such as paint and cleaners
* Install chair and rope ladders at selected upper floor windows to facilitate escape.
* Hold fire drills periodically so that everyone who works in the child care facility knows how to escape quickly and safely in an emergency.
