Child care facilities range in quality
from "top-notch" to
"bottom-of-the-barrel", which most falling
in the "middle-of-the-road". Next to a
child's safety and security, parents expect only the
best for their children in regards to indoor
furnishing and equipment. Injuries, mostly minor, are
not uncommon in the day care centre. A day care centre
should meet the safety requirements one maintains in
his/her own home. To minimize injuries caused by
indoor furnishing and equipment, try the following:
* Only use child-sized furniture or furniture and
equipment that has been adapted for children
* Do not use any items with lead based paint, toxic
finishes, small parts that can be swallowed, loose or
rusty parts, protruding nails or sharp corners instead
opt for items with lead free paint, natural finishes,
solid big pieces, no loose or rusty parts (try
plastic) and rounded corners
* Keep floors, walls and ceilings clean and in very
good condition
* Maintain carpets that are clean, easy to maintain,
in good condition and made of nonflammable as well as
nontoxic fibers
* Place window covering cords out of children's each
* Have proper security locks on doors and
windows
